Dental Sealants

A young blonde boy brushing his teeth like he is looking into the mirror with an orange and white toothbrush and a white door behind him.Dental sealants can significantly change the health of your children's teeth, and of yours. The sealant product is a plastic that is painted onto the surfaces and in the grooves of your back molars, where cavities occur most often. This process allows us to "seal" your teeth from debris, plaque, and decay.

Without sealants, the grooves of your teeth can trap food and debris that is not easily removed through regular brushing, flossing and rinsing. Additionally, our children are not known for doing the best job of caring for their teeth. If food particles are left in place, the bacteria will multiply and proceed to cause tooth decay.

Protecting permanent teeth

Studies tell us that a majority of children will have at least one cavity before they reach adulthood. Many children will have much more than one cavity. The application of sealants significantly lowers that prospect. In fact, at more and more oral exams, we are seeing children who never get a cavity. This helps the long-term health of their teeth. Without fillings or other dental work, your children will be able to extend the life of their teeth. Dr. Wael Garine highly recommends this simple, painless, procedure.

Who should get sealants?

Dr. Garine recommends the following patients to consider dental sealants:

•  All of his minor aged patients who have some or most of their adult teeth.
•  Adult patients who have experienced significant problems with cavities or decay.

How are sealants applied?

Sealants are a liquid plastic material that is painted on with a small brush. This is a fast process that does not involve anything that would cause pain. As the product dries, it hardens into a strong, durable product that will last for many years.

Our offices are here to answer any questions you have about dental sealants and may be able to offer additional information. We have staff able to answer your call at either of our two easily accessible locations.
