Unfortunately, many people that might benefit from dental implants avoid this treatment option because of fear about the procedure, but in actuality, the implant process involves minimal pain and discomfort.

Benefits of Dental Implants

There are a variety of great reasons to go ahead and invest in dental implants, as these restorations come with many benefits:

•  Improved speech, as you'll be able to speak without worrying that your teeth may slip
•  Improved appearance, as dental implants feel and look like the natural teeth
•  Greater comfort
•  Easier eating
•  Improved oral health, as you won't need to reduce or alter your other teeth
•  Durability, as implants can potentially last a lifetime if they are cared for properly

The Dental Implant Procedure

Getting your dental implants inserted will take several appointments to complete. The first step in the procedure is the placement of the root implant. This implant will consist of a small titanium post that is placed into the socket of the missing bone. Anesthesia will be used to make the process as comfortable as possible, and after the implant has been put into the mouth, you'll be sent home. The jawbone will heal and grow around the titanium post so that it anchors to the jaw, and the healing process can take 6-12 weeks.

After the healing process has been completed, a small post known as an abutment will be attached to the implant in order to hold the new tooth in place. The crown, which is made from impressions of your teeth, is attached to the abutment. Since your dentist will match the color of the crown to that of your natural teeth, the replacement tooth will function, feel, and look just like your own teeth.
